Paul VI
Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini · 21 Jun 1963 – 6 Aug 1978 · 15 yrs · died
Finished Vatican II, flew on airplanes, and wrote Humanae Vitae. Not everyone forgave the last one.
Did
- Closed Vatican II (1965) and implemented the new Mass (1969).
- First pope to visit six continents.
- Retired the papal tiara; no pope has worn one since.
Didn't
- Change the teaching on contraception: Humanae Vitae (1968) kept the ban, against his own commission's advice.
